Pass Plus is backed by the Government, Driving Standards Agency and insurers. It is designed to make newly qualified drivers become better drivers and gives you a number of other benefits, such as cheaper motor insurance. The course consists of six specially designed training sessions to follow on from a successful practical driving test--driving in town, in all weathers, at night, on dual carriageways and on motorways. The extra experience and positive driving skills from Pass Plus would otherwise take a long time to acquire. You should be a safer and better driver and remember new drivers make up just 10% of licence holders, but are involved in 29% of accidents. You can take Pass Plus up to a year after passing your practical driving test. There is no further test to take . When your instructor is satisfied with your performance you receive a certificate from the Driving Standards Agency. Motor insurers that support the scheme will give you a one year's no claims bonus for comprehensive, third party fire and theft and third party policies as soon as you insure your own car. The saving could more than cover the cost of the course. You can defer the no claims bonus for two years if you currently drive under someone else's policy. This means that if you buy a car within two years of completing a pass plus course, and have not had any claims in the meantime, your first premium will be reduced by the extra one years no claim bonus. Insurers representing over 63% of the UK private car market have agreed to these discounts. These companies are:
